Use of Technology
Eagle Wing Productions (EWP) is a technology-rich environment using industry-standard tools provided by grants, in-kind donations and funds generated by the program as a student-run enterprise. EWP maintains an account within the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation [501(c)(3)] for flow-through funding. EWP is not a studio-style production facility, although a small studio is used for some talking head interviews and effects shots (blue screen). Most of the footage is shot on location. Some of the major production tools include: Sony DXC-637 BetaSP camcorder, Avid Media Composer, a range of software packages for graphics and special effects, professional microphones, and video lighting instruments. When needed, the students also use the school's DS-3 fiber Distance Learning facility to videoconference with clients, community partners, and content experts.

Additionally, Eagle Wing Productions' professional mentors from Media Makers, Inc. (a women-owned video production company, the president of which is a former EWP student) train EWP students on and let them use company equipment. Any additional professional tools are rented through funds charged back to the EWP client. Final online editing for major projects is done through Media Makers using an Avid Media Composer and Soft Image post-production suite. News features and small format productions are finished at EWP.
