Use of Technology
The Physics students participating in the Bridge Project required significant time and access to computers for research, word processing, and calculations. Computers in the school are located in the library, computer lab, and business technology lab. The library is limited to 10 computers and is first come, first serve. The computer lab is on a sign-up only basis and is generally reserved for English classes working on portfolios. Therefore, to meet the needs of her Physics students, Ms. Texas established a collaborative relationship with the Business Technology department and gained access to 35 computers. This relationship also gave Ms. Texas and her students the opportunity to work with other teachers and students with expertise they needed. Students used computers for research on the Internet, writing articles and proposals, running bridge building software, and using graphing calculators and calculator-based labs for content-based activities. They also used Excel to present data in their proposals and PowerPoint to present their ideas to the selection committee.
